Our Chairman of Trustees, Air Vice-Marshal N J E Kurth has got a smile on his face. After many weeks of early starts and cycling in sub-zero temperatures Nick has passed his target of £1,000 in sponsorship.
Nick is raising money for The Ulysses Trust by cycling the Ride London – Essex 100 on 29th May 2022. He’s been in training since March and has been gradually building up the distances so that he’s ready for the main even in less than two weeks’ time.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Nick (and The Trust) so far. Your generosity is very much appreciated!
You can read all about Nick’s training on his blog page. Below is a collection of photos from Nick’s training rides.
And if you’d like to support Nick and the Trust, visit his fundraising page.
Thank you!
Duty Carried Out - with wind chill it was -2 this am. 40 miles done. Photo - as the sun came up.
Check the glasses! Rain, wind and cold temperature! 🥶 Just over 37 miles in -1 deg with wind chill. Earned my 🍩 and 🍮!
Our Chairman, AVM Nick Kurth, continued his Ride London 100 training over the weekend; he is undertaking the ride in aid of the Trust. On Saturday he helped a new club cyclist with some training on the hills. Moving to Sunday he completed the Berkhamsted Cycling Club Spring Classic Reliability Ride.
A windy 65 miles in the bag!
I spent Saturday hitting the Chiltern Hills with an RAF mountaineering friend of mine. We managed to get nearly 2000 feet of climbing in and ended up at Whipsnade Zoo (see photo). It was still cold for the ride (2 deg with wind chill added in) but the sun was most welcome. Hopefully, it will start warming up this week and my shorts might make an appearance. Ten weeks to go ’til Ride London 100!
Whilst cycling through the Winter had its trial by ordeal, there were some excellent sunrises!
In that temperature, it was not suitable for cyclists!
Whilst on Saturday’s ride, I bumped into a fellow club cyclist whose electronic gear changing was struggling as it had run out of charge! I escorted him back to a local cafe and we had a very pleasant bacon roll and coffee in the sun, before I headed out again.
Stopped to enjoy that unusual commodity in recent months - the sun!
Consumption of the much needed coffee and doughtnuts at the Cricket Club.
Pushing through one of the local villages.
Drying out with a Berkhamsted Cycling Club coffee and doughnut - before a further 20+ miles to do!
All smiles following rides in glorious sunshine with little wind today.
At the end of another high intensity session up some local hills - one more of these before Ride London!
Riding with GB age group triathlete, Amy Kilpin, on the Berkhamsted Cycling Club’s very windy Reliability Ride in March. (She looks more comfortable in the circs than I do!)
Some of my Cycling Club friends at the finish of Ride Chartridge.
Riding up Toms Hill Road - used for one of the Tour of Britain races.
Some high jinks on Toms - my friend Hannah ‘pushing’ me up the hill!
Fingers crossed that I hit the £10000 sponsorship target for 3 x Ride Londons to support The Ulysses Trust.
With some Berhamsted Cycling Club (BCC) colleagues in the Mall, on the way to the start. Some 20+ BCC members participated and completed the event. Possibly interestingly, all 4 past and present Chairs of the Club finished the event, myself included.
Air Ambulance stopped play! As a consequence of an incident at mile 49, an Air Ambulance was called in. Here I am at mile 40 stopped! We restarted after waiting for 30 minutes.
