Summer camp 2022

Expedition Summer Camp 22 for the Bury and Radcliffe Sea cadets

The cadets arrived at the camp site in the evening, in the middle of a woodland.  Some cadets had never been away from parents overnight, so they were very excited.

The bus was emptied, and the cadets had a look round the site. While the instructors caught a breath. The cadets found the fire pit available for campfires, a shop always a favourite, the vast fields for playing football and much more

The first night was just about getting to grips with being away from home. The cadets played games enjoyed football and rounders. The cadets sorted there bunks out as they were staying indoors on the first night.

The following day the cadets set about putting the tents up that were given by a Ulysses grant 2914 from Ulysses without these tents the cadets would not be able to sleep outside. It took some time for the cadets to read instructions and erect the tent. Instructors had to step in a few times.  They also got given a tent light which was also from Ulysses 2914 grant. The cadets thought these were great.

During the day the cadets learned how to use a compass and then went on to do orienteering. It was great watching the cadets running around outdoors with no mobile phones. They then carried on the camping theme and looked at different items of ration packs and looked at the camping stoves from years gone by and the new era of them today.

All comments about the camping where positive one of our youngest cadets just 11 years old said “can we make it longer next time”

On the return journey all cadets appeared to have a lovely weekend and we at the unit were very happy that we had the help from the Ulysses trust 2914.
