25th Anniversary Appeal Expedition: Day 47

25-anniversary-expedition-day047Furuheim to Hattfjelldal. 32km 6hrs.

Today I linked back-roads and scooter trails north out through the Susendal to the local comune centre of Hattfjelldal. From 20km away I could see the plume of smoke from what I now know to be the areas biggest industrial plant-a massive chip board factory. I skied out of the dark spruce forest following a scooter trail past acres of timber stacked up and snowed in, waiting their turn to be pulped and pressed into shape. It’s an impressive sight, even if the smell of burnt wood dust does hang in the air. This afternoon I had a chance to buy more maps and some tasty goodies and even get my poor skis waxed. Road skiing certainly hammers the skis… Tonight I’m happily plotting my next few days and enjoying the comfort of a hotel bed! Whoohooo…
