25th Anniversary Appeal Expedition: What’s the plan?

25-anniversary-expedition-day044-02I’ve been asked few times what my plan is for Norge på langs and, well, I don’t really have a fixed plan. I have a strategy. I researched the routes others have taken; where they stayed, how long they took, and what major problems they encountered. My research encouraged me not to take a pulk, and not to camp, but to try to use the extensive Norwegian mountain hut system and do big days where necessary to link them. I also knew that I should try to stay in synch with the weather. To ski long in good weather, shorter in average weather and sit tight and rest when the weather is bad. So far I’ve largely stuck to this strategy. It’s the main reason I’m putting in some big days now. I need good weather to cross the next range of remote hills in one long day. Børgefjell looms on the northern horizon. There are no shelters for over 50km beyond Viermahytta. Fortunately there’s a big high pressure over Europe and three amazing blue sky, breathless days ahead… albeit bitterly cold! Nothing for it then but to wrap up warm and head north.
