MARCOMMS Officer Completes Sponsored Bike Ride

Our MARCOMMS Officer, Paul Randall, completed a 50 mile bike ride on Sunday as he toured the hills of North Nottinghamshire to raise money for charity. The bike ride was in memory of his late brother, Peter Randall who would have been celebrating his 50th birthday over the weekend. Paul was supporting two charities for his ride and raised over £420 for The Ulysses Trust. We caught up with him to find out more.

“I decided I needed to take on a challenge. Also, this year we would be celebrating what would have been my late brother Pete’s 50th birthday. So I thought I’d combine the two and ride 50 miles to celebrate his 50th birthday. I named the ride in his memory: Pete’s 50! Also I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise a bit of cash for charity whilst getting a bit fitter.”

When asked what next,

“I’d like to continue cycling for fun, but not sure I’ll be doing more than a dozen miles each time. 50 miles didn’t sound much when I started planning the ride, but actually riding 50 miles on my old bike was not as easy as I originally thought. However, I’m pleased with the result and enjoyed doing the training to get fit. I would encourage anyone to take on a sponsored challenge as it gives you a target which requires the discipline of training – so it is a good way to ensure you keep the training schedule going. Also cycling is a great tonic and the training is very enjoyable + raising money for charity means that other people will benefit from the effort. So everyone wins!”
