Royal Marines and Sea Cadets from the following units, City of Liverpool, South Liverpool and Holylake deployed to Holy Island, Anglesey between 17-22 July 2022 for Adventure Training.
The Training aim was to provide Royal Marines and Sea Cadets from the Mersey West District with the opportunity to conduct Adventure in the arduous environment of Anglesey and the Snowdonia National Park. The Cadets experienced elements of challenge in the various activities that where delivered. Problem Solving, Operating in and dealing with different land and Marine Environments, working as part of a team and life skills.
The vision for the week’s adventurous training was to provide our Cadets with an opportunity to participate in Safe, enjoyable, yet challenging Adventure Training activities both on the land and on the water.
The following AT activities where covered – Mountain Biking, Powerboat, Sailing, Paddle sports. Evening activities covered – Water Rescue/Awareness, Practical First Aid Training, Weather and Tide.
Visits where arranged midweek to visit the Coastguard Station and Coast Guard Search and Rescue Team at Holyhead. Cadets where provided with a tour and presentation of Trearddur Bay Lifeboat Station.
During the week Cadets, some of which had not previous been away from home where introduced to various life skills. Skills involving keeping the host unit clean and tidy, prepping kit and equipment for the following day’s activity. Duty Cadets worked in the Galley (Kitchen) under supervision of the Chef prepping food and pack lunches.
All these skills can be applied back at the home unit and also the Cadets home environment.
A few Cadets attending the Exercise had a number of special needs, anger management, adhd, short attention span and also an unwillingness to take part in AT and admin activities.
On completion of the camp these Cadets had a better understanding of importance of Team Building and problem solving. As the camp went on there was more willingness to take part and get involved with the various activities.
